Welcome to the Official Website
of Tony Harbourne...

I was born in Wandsworth, London, in 1947 and moved to Kent at the age of seven. The countryside flourished with wildlife of every description in those days, including a vast variety of insects, and was an interest not to be missed.

I started work at the age of sixteen as an apprentice draughtsman in the heating and ventilating industry and left home five years later to share a flat in Highgate with my school friend Ian Tyas. It was during these idyllic flat days that we both met our prospective wives.

Sunday afternoons in Highgate, during 1968, were spent at Parliament Hill, listening to the brass band, flying kites and racing small, hand-carved wooden sailing boats across the boating pond. Thoughts of the boats being sailed by miniature crews led to the creation of Bozadir and the Green Empire, though the transfer of these thoughts to a proper story took a good number of years.

I married in 1970 and three years after the birth of our daughter we moved to a house in south-east London and have lived there ever since.
