Moombe

Description

A rather damp and mossy land enclosed by the Moombe Mountains to the north and East Water to the south. Mushroom plantations are plentiful, each tended by the folk of its own dedicated village. Trading mushrooms is Moombe's main source of income and those that grow in the vast underground cavern of Limoria are of the finest quality and most sought after, cultivated in accordance with ancient, secret methods and sold for the highest prices. Limoria once traded with Gotherim but it dried up when Green Towers were built and the access to West Wash became such a headache for the trader ships - endless scrutiny, passes, documents of authority, etc. that it was not worthwhile. The nations drew apart and all contact was lost.

The folk of Moombe are openly suspicious of outsiders. They have suffered from many unfortunate dealings and double-crossing with Norg on the other side of the Moombe Mountains, together with more than their fair share of pirate raids to the bank-side villages. The warriors ride dragonflies, swift and deadly, the undisputed masters of aerial combat.

Notes

Dragonfly Riders

Limorians fly the Emperor Dragonfly. Dragonflies are fast flying agile insects that catch their food on the wing. They have huge eyes that help them to spot their prey, which they trap in their long legs. The female lays her eggs in the water or in the folds of water plant leaves. The nymphs feed on a supply of small water creatures. When fully grown they climb waterside plants and their skin splits open for the adult to emerge.

The Emperor Dragonfly Anax imperator has a long, bright thorax in the male - greenish blue in the female. Abdomen and eyes are metallic green.

The saddles of Limorian Dragon riders are like chairs, with high backs and strong arms. These are needed because of the great speeds the dragons can reach. The riders strap their legs to the frame and rest their feet on projecting platforms. They use reins though only the lightest flicks in a certain order are enough to control the dragon's flight. Their favorite manoeuvre is the 'dead drop' whereby the dragon and warrior drop like a stone onto their enemy, or onto a particular landing site.

They usually fly in groups of 10 to 20 strong (Squadron) led by a Sergeant.

The Guard of Calendine

The Guard is commanded by Captain Gribble. They wear tall, blue conical helmets with wide nose guards. Their tough, knee length, yellow tunics are studded. The tunics are belted at the waist. From the belt hang scabbard and bell - the token of Calendine. They wear black hose and heavy boots. They carry spears. No shields.

The Guard of Helebore

The Guard wear blue and silver, quartered, knee length tunics (shields blue and silver also) conical silver helmets
